Good vs. Bad Video Examples - Record Your Regular Household Activity 

To help make our quality guidelines easier to understand, we've put together real examples from previously reviewed videos — some that passed with top scores, and some that didn't meet the bar.

🎬 A note on video length: Each example below has been clipped to just 1–2 minutes (or shorter). The goal isn't to show a full task from start to finish — it's to show clearly what a criterion looks like when it's done right (or wrong). The clips have been trimmed for length only; nothing has been cut or edited within each clip.

📐 A note on Horizontal Orientation: Once your device is set up correctly, recording is locked to landscape (check Settings in the Minute app) — so it's not something you'll be able to get wrong by accident once your setup is confirmed. We've still included it as a check in good examples below as a reminder to double-check this before you start recording.

🔒 A note on Personal Information (PII): We're not including a "bad" example for this criterion, since doing so would mean showing the very personal information we're asking you to avoid. Just know this is a strict requirement — no visible faces, ID/bank cards, or legible names or addresses, ever. Avoid recording yourself in front of a mirror.

Good Examples

These two videos scored 100/100 on both Quality and Diversity — here's what they got right, criterion by criterion.

✅ Horizontal Orientation: Recorded in landscape, as required — locked orientation makes this automatic.

✅ Footage Stability: Recording is stable without any wobble or shaking.

✅ Lighting: Lighting is good and all actions are clearly visible.

✅ Hand Visibility: Both hands are visible for nearly the entire task.

✅ Valid Task: Recording matches the household task selected before recording.

✅ Diversity/Realism: Task is performed naturally, with a genuine range of actions.

✅ Natural Environment: Recorded in a normal home setting.

✅ Camera Angle: Camera is head-mounted, pointing straight down at the hands and workspace.

✅ Lens Condition: Lens is clean and crack-free — footage is sharp and clear.

✅ No Personal Information (PII): No faces, ID cards, or personal information visible.

✅ Original Recording: Original, real, one continuous take with no edits.

Bad Examples

Each of these videos failed to meet one specific criterion — everything else about the video may have been fine. Watching for just this one issue makes it much easier to spot in your own recordings.

Example 1 — Footage Stability  

Kitchen Task_Washing Dishes - Bad_Shaky:

 The recording is shaky and unstable throughout, making it hard to follow what the hands are doing.

Example 2 — Lighting

Pet Care_ Feeding - Bad_ Poor Lighting:

Lighting is too dim/inconsistent, making the task hard to see clearly.

Example 3 — Hand Visibility 

Tidying Room_ Making the Bed - Bad_ Hand Visibility:

Both hands are not visible for at least 90% of the time.

Example 4 — Valid Task and Natural Environment

Kitchen Task_Washing Dishes - Bad_Not Household Chore:

The recording is not a valid household task — this was filmed in a restaurant  kitchen, doing professional dishwashing rather than a household chore. This also fails Natural Environment, since a commercial kitchen is not a residential setting.

Example 5 — Diversity/Realism 

Kitchen Task_ Food Prep - Bad_ Lack of Diversity:

The same motion is repeated for most of the video with no real progression or variation in actions.

Example 6 — Camera Angle 

Upside Down

Bathroom Cleaning - Bad_ Upside Down & Seated:

Footage is recorded upside-down/inverted, which fails this criterion automatically regardless of how well the task was performed.

❌ The activity was also performed while seated, which is not allowed. 

Third-Person / Not Head-Mounted (Screenshot)

Device is not head-mounted, which means it immediately fails in this criterion.

❌Hand Visbility is also impacted with these recordings, as they can’t be viewed completing an activity from top-down perspective.

Example 7 — Lens Condition 

Kitchen Task_ Washing Dishes - Bad_ Lens Condition (Low Resolution):

 The lens is smudged causing blurry footage. 

❌ It is also possible that the video was recorded in a low resolution. Either way, the image quality is not acceptable.

Example 8 — Original Recording 

Kitchen Tasks_ Washing Dishes - Bad_ Not Original Recording:

👀 Just to the left of the top-middle of the frame, there is a spot of light that doesn’t change throughout the video even when objects pass by it.

👀 There are lines visible, particularly on the arms, that are consistent with a recording of a video on another screen.

👀 There are some seconds of inactivity. This is followed by a blurred or out of focus action of washing a mug, which appears to be stitched/edited because we don’t witness the hands entering the frame and picking up the mug. 

🎥 Example 9 — Horizontal Orientation (Screenshot)

While this video was probably recorded in horizontal or landscape orientation, if screen rotation is enable on a smartphone, it will change the orientation of the recording. This is then uploaded as vertical orientation, which is unacceptable.
